Indoor
Field Hockey Rules
- Six players are allowed on the field at one time. Five field
players' plus one goalkeeper or six field players, with a field
player designated as a goalkeeper.
- The game is started with a center pass.
- A side-in occurs when the ball crosses over the sideline, out
of bounds. A push-pass is the only legal means in which to put
the ball into play. The ball should be placed one meter inside
the line and all opponents must be three meters away.
- Ball over the end line:
- If attack puts the ball over the end line, the game is resumed
with a push- pass inside the circle by the opponents.
- If defense unintentionally puts the ball over the
end line, the game is resumed with a 16 yard hit on the sideline.
- If the ball is intentionally put over the end line
by the defense, the game is resumed with a penalty corner
by the attack team.
- Penalty corners:
- Defense must be stacked and outside the cage on the opposite
side from where the corner is being taken.
- The goalkeeper is the only player in the cage.
- A foul occurs when a player does any of the following on the
field:
- Hits the ball with a back swing.
- Lifts the ball or plays a lofted ball.
- Uses the stick to obstruct play.
- Plays the ball into the opponent's feet.
- Uses the body to obstruct play.
The penalty for any foul is a push pass for the non-offending
team. Opponents must be three meters away, if near the circle
all players must be three meters away.
- Advancing will be called only if an advantage occurs.
*** A shot may be lifted if no defender is present (within three
meters).
